Most of the time our aches and pains resolve by themselves. An Osteopath is needed when the problem reaches a level where the body needs some help because it can no longer self regulate.
The aim of our treatment is to increase your body’s capacity to heal itself. By using gentle techniques to adjust the muscles, fascia and joints we reduce the restrictions that limit the free functioning of your body, enabling it to resolve the injuries and stresses inflicted on it through daily living.
Generally, the hands on part of a treatment at the Richmond Osteopathic Clinic will consist of soft tissue work that you will feel as pushing, stretching and massaging of the muscles and tissues to reduce tightness. We will also mobilize the joints to improve their quality of movement. There might be gentle resisted movements and stretching to release tissue tension and manipulation of joints, particularly in the spine, to reduce locking or restriction.
Using these techniques we can work on a wide variety of common complaints that people experience. We have been able to help with things like:
Back and neck pain
Referred pain associated with back and neck problems
Some sciatic like symptoms
Joint pains in the limbs
Domestic and occupational strains and injuries
Muscle strains and tendinosis
Pain management in arthritic conditions
Postural tension
Tension based headaches
Other conditions that have a structural component or trigger
These are descriptions of the type of thing we commonly treat at the clinic. We may be able to assist with other things not mentioned here so please contact us to discuss whether we can help.
We may not have a complete answer to your problem ourselves, but in conjunction with existing or additional medical treatment we can improve outcomes through a multi-disciplinary approach. We enjoy working cooperatively with other health providers in the community to try and achieve successful results and improve your well being.
